It is a great idea for everyone to have a generator at their home. If the power ever goes out due to a storm, natural disaster, or even an accident, you have options. You can keep your home warm or cool, keep your fridge and freezer running, or have some lights in your home. These are great things to have when you don’t know exactly how long it will be until you get power back. However, what are you supposed to do with that generator between times where an emergency comes up? You don’t want it to just sit there, because then it may not work when you need it to.
The Answer is Using the Generator for Other Activities
To keep everything in your generator lubricated up and moving properly, you want to make sure you run your generator now and again. If you went through and decided that a generator was a good decision for your home, then you want to make sure it is ready when you need it. The best way to do that is to use it now and again. Here are some great options that can make using your generator worth your time, plus fun, at the same time!
- Have a movie night in your backyard. Put a white sheet up on a flat surface, and use a projector to put up a fun movie that you and your family love to watch. Make it into a bigger event and invite neighbors, friends, or family to come, too. You can use the generator to run the projector, an extra fridge for the food and drinks, or the speakers that generate the sound.
- You could opt for a concert night instead. If you do not want to do a movie night, consider a concert night. Put on your favorite radio station, blast the sound through some really good speakers, and start your own block party. Obviously, don’t bother the neighbors if they are not in attendance, but have fun using your generator to make your backyard party pop. Make sure you hook up some fun party lights to keep the party going into the nighttime hours.
- Use your generator for any construction projects that you do around your house. Instead of using your home power, you can opt for the power of your generator to run your tools and lights. This gives your generator a solid use, and it helps you be sure that your generator is in proper working order.
- Have a backyard campout. If you have a big family, then going on a long weekend camping trip may not be feasible. Even with a small family, going on regular camping trips may not work. However, setting up a smaller scale camping trip once or twice a month may be much easier. Use the generator to add some lights to the backyard, music from a radio, and even a mini-fridge for the night so everything is within arm’s reach.
